The Maternal Health Hub promotes best practices and shared learnings for advancing equitable, high-value maternity care.
High-value maternity care includes the following characteristics:
- Equitable, patient-centered, culturally competent, respectful
- Consistent quality, safety and equity regardless of payer/insurance status
- Integrated and coordinated care across medical, behavioral, and social needs
- Honors the pregnant person’s preferences as much as medically feasible
- Does no harm, and reduces medical over utilization and underutilization
- Reimbursement that accurately reflects the costs of delivering high-quality care
The Resources page contains a regularly-updated repository of findings, tools, and resources to support implementation and scale of high-value maternity care. Additionally, the Learning Community invites a diverse group of maternal health stakeholders – including providers, payers, patients, purchasers, community-based organizations, policymakers, and others – to participate in shared learning events and online discussion forums.
Theory of Change
The Maternal Health Hub development was informed by a panel of maternity care subject matter experts. The panel identified three primary drivers that influence the aim to reduce maternal morbidity, mortality and health disparities. The Resources and Learning Community are organized to reflect this theory of change.
Who Runs the Hub?
The Maternal Health Hub is operated by the Health Care Transformation Task Force. The Health Care Transformation is a nonprofit industry consortium that brings together patients, payers, providers and purchasers to align public and private sector efforts in value. In addition to serving as a resource and convener for members, the Task Force also serves as a leading public voice on value-based payment and care delivery transformation.
This project is supported by The Commonwealth Fund, a national, private foundation based in New York City that supports independent research on health care issues and makes grants to improve health care practice and policy.
